
THE 1960'S FASHION
1960's can be seen as the last decade of the 20th century that can really be called new and revolutionary. This decade is famous for breaking many fashion traditions that mirror the social movements during that period.

With the new arrival of Fashion Schools and Academies, youth was attracted to the Art & Business of Fashion. Both design and practicalities of fashion were of great importance at that time. As a result of the baby-boom and the post-war’s enormous young society, a revolution in fashion really took place. Leading in this was Mary Quant who worked for the need of fashion specifically for the teenager. Never before had fashion been focused on this group of society. The young desires of youth followed the way women shopped as well. Shopping shifted from dull department stores favourable by mature women to small, dynamic boutiques aimed the young. Colorful, fast changing collections accompanied by pop music in the background made shopping at these boutiques fun and exciting.
After designer Mary Quant introduced the mini-skirt in 1964, fashion of the 1960s was changed forever. The mini skirt was eventually to be worn by nearly every stylish young female. The mini dress was usually A-Line in shape or a sleeveless shift. Bright big hats with very bright colors were also popular. This was introduced in 1966. Right after the "tropical years".
Andre Courreges is responsible for introducing the "space look" in 1964, which consisted of trouser suits, white boots, goggles, and box-shaped dresses with skirts that soared three inches above the knee. These were mainly designed using fluorescent colours and shiny fabrics such as PVC and sequins.
First Lady Jackie Kennedy was a leading fashion icon early 60's Popular mini-skirts in the 60's.
